Volunteer Opportunities

Be Part of the Story!

Want to make a difference, meet interesting people, and help preserve a truly unique piece of Minnesota history? We’d love to have you join us!

The Minnesota State Public School Orphanage Museum depends on volunteers to help keep Cottage 11 open and welcoming to visitors. It’s a great way to share stories, connect with people from all walks of life, and help preserve the legacy of the more than 10,000 children who once called the State School home.

No special experience is required. We welcome men and women with all kinds of backgrounds, interests, and skills. Training is provided, and scheduling is flexible.

Whether you’re a history buff, a people person, a lifelong Owatonna resident, or simply looking for a meaningful way to give back, there’s a place for you here.
